Fencing in College

“Can fencing help my child get into college?”

It’s one of the most common questions we hear from parents.

Our answer: Absolutely!

Stand out from the crowd.

Admissions officers love students with unique stories who pursue excellence in their extracurricular activities. Fencing imparts invaluable life skills and experiences that set students apart from their peers and make them attractive college applicants. From learning how to perform under pressure, to traveling around the world, to making friends with diverse backgrounds, fencing gives athletes countless opportunities to become more exceptional people. Bring on those college essays!

Explore your options.

Think fencing is a small sport? You might be surprised to learn that 42 colleges and universities around the country offer varsity programs and compete for the coveted NCAA Fencing Championship. These schools run the gamut, from the Ivy League to major state universities to small liberal arts colleges.  Plus, many more schools offer club programs that have their own competitive league and national championship tournament. Whatever your child’s personality, there’s a college fencing program out there with their name on it!

Fence with the best.

At Nellya, our goal is to prepare our fencers to be great athletes, great team members and great contributors to their communities. College fencing coaches recognize that our core commitment to excellence has helped us produce some of the best fencers in the world, including Olympic medalists and national and world champions. More importantly coaches know that Nellya fencers support their teammates, always display the highest levels of sportsmanship and work hard every day. That’s why Nellya fencers are a hot commodity on any college team.

Get a scholarship.

Yes! Many schools with varsity fencing programs offer full and partial athletic scholarships. As with any other college sport, scholarships are competitive and typically go to athletes who have shown excellent tournament results in high school. Our coaches and staff will help you plan ahead if you’re interested in working toward a scholarship.

Let Nellya help.

We know how important it is to prepare our athletes for the next step in their educational journey. That’s why we provide opportunities throughout the year to educate parents and athletes on their college application process. We help connect our fencers to our extensive network of college students and alumni. We also maintain strong relationships with coaches of the nation’s top college fencing programs. Remember that it’s never too soon to start planning for college and we are happy to help guide you through the process. Contact us here with questions!
