Sizing Information & Products

*Most of these items can be found in Absolute’s 13-Piece Competition Sabre Set. Please be sure of your sizes and the recommended upgrades before ordering.

MASK

Recommended: AF SABRE CE 350 N MASK: REGULAR ($86)

To find your size:

Measure the circumference of your head starting from underneath the chin, going up the side of the head, over one ear, over the top of the head, back down the other ear, and back to under the chin to make a complete circle.

XS S M L XL
Under 21” 21”-23” 24”-25” 26”-28” Over 28”

JACKET

Recommended: AF FEMALE JACKET: ELITE STRETCH 350N or AF MALE JACKET: ELITE STRETCH 350N ($74)

To find your size:

Measure the widest part of your chest, just below the armpits (women may use regular bra size) and add two inches. Jackets only come in even sizes; if your measurement is odd, round up to the next even number. Be sure to specify left or right hand.

LAMÉ

Recommended: ABSOLUTE SIGNATURE SERIES II WOMEN’S SABRE LAME or ABSOLUTE SIGNATURE SERIES II MEN’S SABRE LAME ($189)

To find your size:

Sabre lamés are usually the one size larger than your jacket. Add 8″ for your chest measurement for an average fit. Be sure to specify left or right hand.

KNICKERS

Recommended: AF PANTS: FEMALE ELITE STRETCHY 350N or AF PANTS: MALE ELITE STRETCHY 350N ($44)

To find your size:

Take your waist measurement (at the belly button) and add two inches.  That number should be your knickers size. Knickers only come in even sizes so if you fall on an odd number simply round up.  Tall size pants are 3″ longer in the inseam.

GLOVE

Recommended: AF FIE 800N SABRE GLOVE ($56)

To find your size:

Measure around your palm (excluding your thumb) and add 0.5″. Be sure to specify left or right hand.

UNDERARM PROTECTOR

Recommended: AF NYLON UNDERARM PROTECTOR ($22)

To find your size:

Sizes are based on height.

CHEST PROTECTOR (FOR WOMEN AND GIRLS)

SHOES

Recommended: Nike or Adidas are the most popular and reliable brands of fencing shoe. Nike shoes tend to be lighter and thinner, while Adidas are heavier and have more support.

To find your size:

Fencing shoes come only in men’s sizes. To calculate women’s sizes, take your shoe size and subtract 1.5. For example, a women’s size 8.5 is a men’s 7.

SABRES

Recommended: ABSOLUTE E. ELITE (S2000) SABRE ($58)

Fencers in Y-10 must have a #2 size blade. Fencers older than 10 use #5 size blades only. Be sure to specify left or right hand.

BODY CORDS AND MASK CORDS

Recommended: ABSOLUTE TRANSPARENT 2-PRONG BODYCORD ($20) and AF MASK CORD ($6.50)

AT LEAST two body cords and two mask cords per fencer.

Equipment Care

If you take care of your equipment properly, it will last you a long time. Wash your equipment regularly to keep it fresh!

  • Wash your white jacket, knickers, and underarm protector how you would your regular whites. Use chlorine free bleach.
  • Your lamé can be washed! You can hand wash it or hang it in the shower and spray it off. Be sure to dry it thoroughly and never leave it crumpled so that it doesn’t rust or form any dead spots. The same goes for your glove.
  • Some masks have removable padding that can be taken out and washed.
  • Body cords often break, but the good news is they can often be repaired. The small clip that holds it onto the sabre is easily fixed with a screw driver and a little patience; a coach can help you repair this problem quickly, so hold on to the pieces! If the wires inside of the body cord begin to break and you see a yellow light on the scoring machine while using it, don’t throw it away! An armorer can fix it for you for a small fee, or you can learn to fix them yourself.
  • Sew up any holes that appear in your equipment for your own safety.
